Monsterman 2 on 17 January 2006

::
Monsterman 2 was a different kettle of fish in so many ways, but the early January weather didn't disappoint as a clear sky on the South coast became sleety snow by the time I'd reached Bordon. To make matters worse, the drive to the start line was along a narrow unmade road, bordered by signs warning of firing ranges ...
The welcome at race registration was friendly, again. Race number and banana duly attached and despatched, it was off for the warm up of the bike leg.
Expect hills, they'd said.
A lap later, it felt shorter than the expected 5 and a bit miles and wasn't that hard. Undulating, I'd have said. All ridden in the middle ring nice, but I was ready to unleash the granny after the four mile run.
Then it dawned on me: the bike course was shorter and not that hilly. Would this mean the run would be a complete bitch? In a word, yes. The run contained two sections where all fours were almost required, some gradual uphill, more gradual uphill and in an almost impressive feat of defying gravity it seemed that all height was lost in a short, steep downhill.
Oh, and the bike lap was short. So we did 4 laps, rather than three.
And the run got steeper when tackled again after the bike.
